THE HAWAII BOWL: South Florida vs San Jose State(-3.0)
DK -102
FD -120
NCAAF Best Bet Season Record: 42-43
The Spartans have had a decent go of things. They play in a real conference in the Mountain West and only lost to teams that are definitively better than them. No shame in losing at Wazzu, Colorado State, and Fresno State. Home losses are always tough but the home losses were to the conferences ranked constituents, UNLV and playoff bound Boise State. They also have wins on Oregon State and Stanford who have more resources than the Spartans. Even without Nick Nash I think that Walker Eget can lead what was a solid offense on the year into the end zone enough times to win.
USF had a much more up and down season. Their only impressive win was against a 5-7 Charlotte team where the defense still allowed 45 points and other than that they have no wins against .500 or better teams. Losing in Tuscaloosa and while hosting the Hurricanes is one thing, getting dog walked in conference by Tulane, Memphis, and Navy is indicative of what USF's real ceiling is. Bare minimum SJSU was competitive with the best teams in their conference, which is why I'm leaning Spartans for the Christmas Eve best bet.
