Boise in the Fiesta bowl as an underdog. Regardless of what Greg Sankey's SEC propagandists are saying, college football is never healthier than when the Broncos are in a Fiesta Bowl. This time is different than the fabled 07 Statue of Liberty shootout. This time the Broncos have the most impactful down to down player in the country and are facing a defense filled with NFL talent.
Penn State's offense is clunky. They run a very basic scheme and have issues on the outside that doesn't really allow Drew Allar to show off his NFL tools. They can run efficiently, typically Allar makes enough plays and they allow the defense to give them short fields to control the ball and effectively control the game. The question will be as follows: Can Abdul Carter and Kobe King disrupt the Boise line enough to keep Jeanty under control? They've been great at containing the rush against everyone they've faced allowing only 100 yards per game, and they keep the pass low as well with only 179.6 yards per game. Boise is explosive with 250 rush yards per game and 219 pass yards per game. Jeanty never goes down on first contact and has had a month off to rest prior to the playoff game. I think he'll be bale to rip off chunk after chunk and allow Maddux Madsen to take advantage on some outside 1 on 1's where the Nittany Lions have shown some vulnerability.
All in all, I expect a competitive game where both teams hold the ball for long sustained drives, leading to close game where Boise keeps it within a score. I can't really see Penn State being explosive enough to pull away or even their loaded defense to truly keep Jeanty contained. Let's ring in the New Year with a best bet win.
