Zac Gallen is nasty. In fact he's been the only respite the Snakes have had during this abysmal stretch they've been on. The likely NL Cy Young winner has a 3.24 ERA/ 3.08 FIP/1.07 WHIP/ 26.6% K%/ 5.2% BB% in 155.2 IP. He's very very very good at this whole baseball thing. The secret to this success is the use of his Knuckle Curve and the Change-Up. The two pitches have combined to induce a .200 BA and .298 SLG in 242 plate appearances. The pitches also combine to have a 33.9% punch-out rate. The location has also been pristine for pitches if left hanging will get crushed.
A pitcher of this quality taking the mound is not enough for a best bet. The Snakes are facing the Padres and Gallen has dominated them this year. 19 IP to the tune of a 1.89 ERA/0.79 WHIP/ 22 SO drum. Just last week Gallen went 6 strong giving up only 4 hits, walking 1, punching out 8, all while keeping the score sheet clean. The Snakes also have the benefit of facing old man Rich Hill, who in 11 IP with the Padres has allowed 9 runs and has a season ERA of 5.71. Under the hood is rugged too.
All in all, this is a best bet where if Arizona covers, I won't be writing them off as a poison pill bet.
