I know. How can anyone hope to stop the 4 headed monster of Olise, Doue, Dembele, and Mbappe? Well Spain stopped it in 2024. Granted, Olise and Doue were not yet rostered but Bradley Barcola, Adrien Rabiot, Aurlien Tchouameni, William Saliba, Dayot Upamecano, Jules Kounde, Eduardo Camavinga, and Mike Maignan were. That France team also had significantly more experience thanks to Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Giroud being on the team.
Spain is also better than they were in 2024. They return Unai SImon, Aymeric Laporte, Marc Cucurella, Mikel Merino, Fabian Diaz, Dani Olmo, Alex Baena, Rodri, Pedri, Ferran Torres, Nico Williams, Lamine Yamal, and Mikel Oyarzabal. While France has added Lucas Digne, Michael Olise, and Rayan Cherki Spain have added Pedro Porro, Pau Cubarsi, and Gavi.
While I think that France on talent and eye test for sure look like the best team at this tournament, I fully believe Spain is the perfect counter for this French team. France loves to push the pace and score and an instant thanks to that four headed monster. The thing is, Spain isn't scared of letting France have those thunderbolts because Spain will take care of the ball, posses the ball more than France, and be completely fine absorbing France' s attacks thanks to their strength being the middle of the field. France has only played teams in the knockout stages that are scared of them. That don't have players capable of holding the ball with confidence while needing to get through Rabiot and Kounde.
I love Spain to win in 90 today, as they did in the Euro 2024 semi-final. Love them as the game of the day.
