This best bet is another bad pitcher against a good lineup matchup. I've talked about JP France being a very nice surprise for Houston in a prior post, and Houston has made it to August only 1.0 GB of Texas. Last week they experienced the joys of the returns Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez. Their season stats don't mean anything since they've barely played, but here, have Yordan's Baseball Savant page.

Alvarez

The Astros are getting a shot in the arm offensively, and it couldn't be coming at a better time. They are hosting Cleveland when the Guardian's are trotting out their newly acquired right handed pitcher, Noah Syndergaard. Syndergaard is having a season comparable to Lance Lynn's. At least Lynn had the excuse of being a part of the White Sox. If the Dodgers can't tap into your skillset, I'm not sure who can. In 55.1 IP, Syndergaard has a 7.16 ERA/5.54 FIP/6.18 K/9/1.46 BB/9/1.45 WHIP. It's not good. And when you see numbers like this, you tend to have an idea of what it looks like under the hood.

Cleveland has the 8.6 fWAR on the season, good for 23rd most offensive fWAR accrued over the season. As is the case with every poor offensive team in MLB, they only have a couple of bats capable of doing damage. Jose Ramirez, Josh Naylor, and Steven Kwan account 7.7 of that fWAR. Against a staff as deep as Houston's that just won't cut it.

The American League thought it was sweet. The Astros are coming for another shot at a World Series.
